Hamilton School of English

Our small, friendly international summer school, established in 1983 for 12-17 year olds, offers a full programme of English tuition, language project work, excursions, sports and crafts, in a safe, happy environment.

Based at Merchiston Castle School in south west Edinburgh, we have superb facilities including bright modern classrooms, a theatre, a pool, tennis courts and a gym, and amid broad green lawns, are in the ideal location to achieve a balance between serious language study and holiday activities.

The owner and Principal of the School is the mother of three teenagers and understands the anxieties of parents and the needs of young people away from home. Homestay hosts are interviewed both by the Principal, and our Accommodation Officer, meet students at the airport and welcome them into their homes.

The School welcomes individuals, small groups and a rich mix of nationalities, Fees include enrolment, transfers, 18 hours tuition a week, accommodation, meals, scheduled activities and excursions. Students need to buy a bus pass (around £10 a week), but otherwise, need only pocket money.
