IALS - University of Edinburgh
The Institute for Applied Language Studies is part of the University of Edinburgh.
Students come to IALS all year round for our wide-ranging General English Programme, led by an enthusiastic team of 20 permanent teachers. In summer, you can choose from nine different courses, from the flexible 15-hour Budget Traveller with a busy social programme, to intensive courses on Spoken English, Literature and Drama.
After the summer, you can study General English for both short and longer periods, with many people staying for a term or more. We also offer English for Special Purposes and pre-sessional Academic English - and students benefit from our links with other university departments such as the Business, Law and Medical schools.
Finally, we run a large programme of teacher development courses in summer, where students work with some of the best and most experienced trainers, widely published in language teaching and contributing to a number of postgraduate courses at the University.
While studying here, you’ll share in a vibrant, international academic environment and have access to student facilities, including the Students’ Union, sports centre, university library, and university accommodation at low prices.
